Driving notifications and alerts in Soplo: how to configure them
Summarize this article with
Configure Soplo before setting off: notifications, location, sound, categories and range. An alert may not arrive, may be late or may be out of date; never look at the phone while moving or stop on the shoulder to check it.
Soplo combines push notifications with the information shown on its map. Delivery can continue while the app is not in the foreground, but it depends on notification permissions, active app registration, recent location, coverage, battery, operating system and the alert's validity. “App closed” therefore means that a channel is prepared, not that every alert will always arrive or arrive at the same time.

Configure it before a trip
- Enable system permissions. Allow notifications and location when the app requests them. If you denied them, return to iOS or Android settings and also check focus mode, battery saving and background permissions.
- Check notification status inside Soplo. The main switch should be on and the app should be registered to receive alerts. After reinstalling or changing devices, it may need to register again.
- Choose categories. Speed cameras, controls, traffic, crashes, hazards and roadworks are not equally useful to everyone. Disable what you do not want to receive to reduce noise, but remember that hiding a type does not remove the real hazard.
- Adjust the range. A small range makes information easier to manage; a large one can warn earlier and create more interruptions. Range and delivery delay are configurable service parameters; Soplo is free, with no paid plans. The app's current screen is the right source for what is available.
- Test while parked. Confirm that sound can be heard, the phone is not silent and the mount does not block the road. Voice features depend on the device and settings; do not treat them as a universal promise.
WHO’s driver-distraction report explains that hands-free interaction can still divide attention. Prepare the route and alerts while safely parked, keep screen tasks out of the journey and stop in a suitable place if a setting needs changing.
Why an alert may be missing or look old
A driver has to report the event first. Soplo then has to receive the position and send the alert to nearby devices according to their preferences. Coverage, a notification or location permission, app registration, battery or saved location can fail. A speed camera, queue or obstacle may also disappear before the data stops being visible.
Soplo shows age signals and confirmations to help you assess context. A recent alert is not an instruction either: watch the signs and traffic. If the road contradicts the warning, trust the road and adapt without braking sharply. The international road safety guide explains how to use these signals without delegating responsibility.

Quick fixes if you receive no alerts
- None arrive: check permissions, silent mode, connection, battery and Soplo's main switch.
- They arrive only with the app open: check battery saving, background location and that notification registration is still active.
- They arrive too far away or too close: review range and recent location; do not confuse range with a coverage guarantee.
- The alert does not match the road: check its age and confirmations, and follow signs and officers.
- The notification arrives late: do not recover the time by looking at the screen. Stop away from traffic if you need to diagnose it.
If the problem continues, note the phone model, system, Soplo version, permissions and approximate time without sharing private data. That context helps support more than repeating that it “does not work”.
Frequently asked questions
Do alerts arrive when the app is closed?
They may arrive as push notifications with the app closed if notification and location permissions are enabled, the app is registered to receive alerts and a connection is available. It is not a guarantee: the phone, network, notification service and age of the data can block or delay delivery.
Can I choose which warnings I receive?
Yes. You can enable or disable categories and adjust the range in the app. These preferences filter what you receive, but they do not change road signs or guarantee that an alert exists.
Do alerts use a lot of battery?
Location and notifications can use battery, especially on long trips. Keep the phone charged and powered steadily; if the system limits background operation, delivery may be affected.
Are alerts spoken?
The app may use sound and voice features depending on the device and settings. Soplo is free, with no paid plans; check Soplo's current screen and do not rely on them as a substitute for safe driving.
